The film is set three Narnian years after the events of Prince Caspian. Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace Scrubb, are transported to Narnia via a painting of a ship. They join King Caspian on a voyage to rescue seven lost lords and defeat a corrupting green mist. Each character faces personal tests, including Lucy's desire to be like Susan, Edmund's fear of the White Witch, and Eustace's transformation into a dragon due to greed. The crew ultimately lays the lords' swords at Aslan's Table, destroying the mist and freeing enslaved victims. Aslan tells Edmund and Lucy they are too old to return to Narnia, but Eustace may come back one day.

Reader's Guide

The film premiered on November 30, 2010, as the Royal Film Performance, and was released theatrically in December 2010. It received mixed reviews but was a moderate box office success, becoming 20th Century Fox's highest-grossing film of 2010. The song 'There's a Place for Us' by Carrie Underwood was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Development began in 2007, but production was halted after a budgetary dispute between Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures, leading Disney to depart and be replaced by 20th Century Fox. Filming took place in Australia and New Zealand in 2009. A planned adaptation of The Silver Chair was abandoned after Walden Media's contract with the C. S. Lewis estate expired in 2011; the series was later rebooted with Netflix's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew.
