Greta Gerwig is writing, co-producing, and directing *Narnia: The Magician's Nephew*, a high fantasy film based on C. S. Lewis's 1955 novel. That book is the sixth published and first chronological entry in *The Chronicles of Narnia* series. This will be the fourth film adaptation of the series, following a trilogy from Walden Media. The cast includes David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep.
The film is set for IMAX previews on February 10, 2027, followed by a theatrical release worldwide (excluding France) on February 12. It will stream on Netflix starting April 2, 2027. This marks Netflix’s first wide theatrical release and its first movie to play exclusively in theaters for at least 45 days.

After Walden Media's contract for The Chronicles of Narnia film rights expired in 2011, the C. S. Lewis Company announced in October 2013 a deal with The Mark Gordon Company to adapt The Silver Chair. In October 2018, Netflix and eOne made a multi-year deal with the C.S. Lewis Company to produce films and TV programs based on the series. In July 2023, following the release of Barbie, Greta Gerwig signed a deal with Netflix to write and direct two Narnia films, with producers including Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber.
